ADVANCED GUITAR CURRICULUM
Continuing from beginner guitar, students will continue to improve their skills in the area of note reading, fingerpicking, chords, strumming. Advanced guitar will dive deeper into music theory and directly apply it to playing the guitar. Students will be expected to prepare and perform a minimum of four songs throughout the course. These songs will reflect the various styles that we cover in class: palm mutes, power chords, finger picking, advanced strumming, etc.
UNIT I - BASIC THEORY
Covering the basic understanding of notes, note reading, note intervals, and scales.
UNIT II - CHORDS AND EXTENSIONS
Covering the foundation of chords.
- Triads: Major, Minor, Augmented, Diminished
- 7th Chords: Major, Minor, Half-Diminished, Fully Diminished
Covering the basics of chordal extensions.
UNIT III - BASS, LEAD, MELODY, and HARMONY
Breaking songs into their respective parts:
- Melodies (vocal and instrumental)
UNIT IV - FINAL PROJECT
Within groups, create or cover a song in its entirety using the four different parts from Unit III.
